Strictly Come Street

Welcome to the first blog post of Disco's Not Dead. This blog will be a collection of thoughts, opinions and comment pieces on all things dance. You may be wondering why the name? Well, coming from a disco freestyle background, but witnessing the rise and rise of street dance in recent years, I wanted to remind everyone that no matter how quickly time moves on, disco dance, as well as other dance forms will live on. So as well as keeping up with the times, I will not be forgetting the origins of certain dance forms.
Today is a perfect day to begin blogging about dance. This is due to the return of Britain's traditional dance-off reality show Strictly Come Dancing returning to our BBC screens. Kicking off with a beautiful rendition of Sweet Child O' Mine, the professionals tore up the floor to make way for the celebrities.
And what a mixed bag of them we have. With no less then Jason Donavan, Holly Valance and Lulu on this years line up, we are set to see a spectacular competition on our hands.
Obviously the typical, traditional dance forms will remain in this glitzy, ritzy style couples competition, but I think we should all start a campaign to get some new dance styles onto Strictly. If X Factor can feature rappers, rockers and Whitney wannabes, lets see some street on the Strictly floor. Just saying.
